A couple of friends got together each week, recorded an hour or more of their conversation, and posted it as The Great Radio Tiki Experiment. In 2002, two years before the word "podcast" was coined, I stumbled on an iTunes station that sounded like an amateur talk radio show.

No choice to prevent moving on to another show once the one you are listening to has finished.

Stitcher is slower to find new episodes of subscribed shows than Howl (or overcast), sometimes not noticing for hours after release, even when I update the feeds manually If the idea is that Stitcher means you can listen to all of your shows on one app, why am I having to maintain a separate feed on Overcast for about half a dozen shows that don't appear on Stitcher? I've never used an app before that just didn't carry shows that are readily available in the iTunes Store. The 'resume episode' function doesn't always resume at the same point that you stopped listening.

Similarly, if two episodes come out the same day (Buffering the vampire slayer did this yesterday), you have to be aware that you've missed one and actively find it to download as a 'listen later' episode. I listen to a show that releases daily but if i don't always listen to the show every day I lose it from my downloaded episodes when the next episode arrives. (thanks u/cake_scarab)Įdit 2: I hope some Stitcher people see this, there are some good points in the comments. I want to clarify that this post isn't meant to be mean or anything, I just wish it was easier to access this sweet, sweet content.Įdit: You can download with that Listen Later button, that confused me. It would be more convenient to have the premium content in the same place without needing the unofficial RSS, and like I said the search function works really well in Stitcher. I would actually switch to this completely if they fix these issues. This isn't a lot of issues, but it is enough that I will never use this app until they are fixed. The UI is nice looking, but you can only see like 5 podcasts at a time while scrolling through a podcast because the display a bunch of info you don't need to see. You can't see your favorite episodes easily You can't subscribe to a podcast like you do on pocketcasts or favorite it like on Howl, instead you add them to a favorites playlist This makes it more difficult to see just the episodes of a specific podcast You can't see a single list of all the premium content in the app, there different sections you have to click through or search for a specific podcast I can't make a Harris CBB playlist like the one I have in pocketcasts with the unofficial rss or the one I had on Howl) You can't add single episodes of a podcast to a playlist, only entire podcasts which doesn't make any sense to me (e.g. This is one of the best things about the Howl app

I don't think you can see the pictures like you can in the Howl app. Here are a lot of issues I have with the Stitcher app on both iPhone and Android: Stitcher has a great search algorithm (better than my main app, Pocketcasts and way better than Howl). I'll start with one thing Stitcher does well to be fair. I have a lot of problems with the Stitcher app that I didn't have with the Howl app. I wanted to make a post with some of the issues I've had with Stitcher and see if other people were having the same problems. There was a discussion about issues with the Stitcher app downloading in the Hollywood Masterclass post.
